Aaron Russell, Psy.D.

Aaron Russell received his doctoral and master’s degrees in clinical psychology from George Fox University. Dr. Russell’s breadth of clinical training comes from working in a variety of settings, including college and university counseling centers, public schools, and the Portland V.A. Prior to his formal training, he spent several years working with adjudicated youth and their families. He has presented at workshops and led groups in topics including stress management, coping with mental illness, health/wellness, and men’s issues.
Dr. Russell maintains a clinical practice providing psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults. He also provides psychological assessment in the areas of general emotional and cognitive function, ADHD, and learning disabilities. His evaluations focus on strengths as well as problem areas, and they emphasize treatments designed to improve function.
Dr. Russell brings a warm, compassionate, and positive demeanor to clinical sessions. He believes strongly in his clients’ own strengths and abilities, and he works collaboratively with them to bring about change. Dr. Russell utilizes his humanistic-existential orientation, as well as CBT, solution-focused therapy and mindfulness training, among other modes, to facilitate greater growth and wholeness. He builds trusting relationships with his clients through sensitivity, understanding and humor.
Dr. Russell works with clients struggling with diverse clinical concerns, including anxiety, depression and anger; grief, loss and life transitions; identity concerns across the lifespan; interpersonal relationships and communication difficulties; disordered eating; stress management; spirituality, faith and personal development; adolescent counseling (identity, peer relationships, family conflicts, attention difficulties and behavior problems); men’s issues, particularly those associated with adolescence and young adulthood; and substance use or abuse.
Dr. Russell is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hiking, backpacking, disc golfing, playing soccer, and supporting the Seattle Sounders.
